ASUS says it has sold over a million of its diminutive Eee gadgets
since launching about five months ago. The mini laptop's mobility and
price has created a new category that is neither ultra-mobile nor UMPC
and competitors are already launching their own versions of the Eee in
an effort to meet demand for cheap, highly mobile computing devices.

Toshiba has released new notebook computers for the Australian market and is targeting both the business and consumer sectors with better looks on the outside and better specs on the inside. A range of 16 consumer and eight business models will be released in April and throughout May, 2007 in what the company calls an "unprecedented release".

Comparing the ASUS EEE, the HP Mini-Note and the HTC Shift UMPC may at
first seem tempting. If you do the high price of the HTC device may
shock at first. It's four times the cost of the EEE and more than twice the
RRP of the Mini-Note, but for that you get a Windows device that
not only runs Vista Business, it converts from touchscreen tablet to
clamshell laptop and from Windows Vista to a smartphone interface.
