Vodafone Australia now has its own email-capable smartphone branded
with under its own name. Priced at A$399 the Vodafone 1210 is a
no-nonsense smartphone pitched directly at corporate fleet buyers.
While the 12210 is probably not a phone you'd choose for yourself (there's no camera for instance), it
certainly has all the goodies you would find in far more expensive
devices. Features such as mobile email and the capability to support
data applications. The 3G connectivity makes for faster web browsing
and attachment downloads.
Based on Windows For Mobile 5.0 the device works with Windows Mobile
Email from Vodafone easily to integrate with your company's
Microsoft Exchange 2003 and 2007 Server software to make it what
Voadfone says is "a highly cost-effective, scaleable and
security-enhanced way to deliver the benefits of email and business
applications on the move". Ahuh.
It's not all dull and rag work stuff though, so if your boss does buy
you this phone don't get too down. The Vodafone 1210 also comes with an
installed Media Player and memory
card slot capable of holding 1GB MicroSD storage card for your music
and videos (there's only 64MB of sotrage on the device). It also has
stereo headphones
to make the most of the phone on the train home.
You can view
documents in Excel, PowerPoint, Word,
PDF and so on so it the 1210 will boost your productivity too.
The phone brings business customers mobile data and 3G capability at an
industry-leading price point and is the first step in a
strategy to develop and bring to market a range of own label products
that represent great functionality and outstanding value for money.
Edward Goff, General Manager for Business Markets at Vodafone
Australia, said: "This is great news for Australian workers who want
more flexible, mobile working practices to be implemented in their
offices.
"Until now, cost has been one of the main barriers for the uptake of
mobile devices for progressive businesses. Mobile email, in particular,
is becoming increasingly popular and is really driving the growth of
the mobile data sector. The Vodafone 1210 meets the needs of Australian
businesses for all their mobile data requirements and at a price point
that suits them, making ‘mobility' far more realistic for the majority
of Australians.
"We felt there was a gap in the market that we could satisfy with the
Vodafone 1210. We've been able to exploit our global buying power to
bring economies of scale to Australian customers and deliver the most
functional smartphone at the most competitive price."
