In a follow-iup to the recent colorful Inspiron announcements, Dell has follwed with two new mobile devices. One an Ultra-Mobile Latitude with Solid Srtate Drives, the other the Dell Precision M4300 mobile workstation.

The solid state drives available in the two new devices are also available on the Latitude D630 and D830 and can withstand a shock of up to 1,300 Gs . Dell says this is predicted to reduce the probability of failure by more than 5 times.

Along with full-time Strike Zone hard drive protection, magnesium alloy construction, and about 13,000 hours of rigorous testing are designed to make the 12-inch Latitude D430 a Road Warriors dream.

Dell says the Solid State Drive improves performance up to 23 percent and can reduce boot time by up to 34 percent. The widescreen weighs in at about 1.3 kilos and measures 295mm x 209.8mm x 25.4mm (or 11.6" x 8.25" x 1" for those that think beter in inches).

The D430 is designed for extreme mobility without sacrificing on the CPU performance and an extended battery is available as an option.

The system is powered by a choice of three processors starting with an Intel Core Solo and ranging up to the 1.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (U7600) processor.

Connectivity, apart from the usual modem and Gigabit Ethernet has several options for wireless netowrking. 3G HSDPA and GSM EVDO are optioned depending on where you are as is integrated 802.11n-Draft or Standards-based a/b/g options if you prefer. A base Latitude D430 starts at US$1,509.

Dell Precision M4300

If you would prefer to opt for power over mobility now you can choose a mobile workstation that boast performance improvements of more than a 110 per cent over Dell's previous Precision machines thanks to some top line Intel processors and the latest OpenGL graphics.

The Dell Precision M4300 is targeted at users that need desktop workstation style performance when they aren't at their desk. Dual-channel memory with 36-bit addressing makes the most of a maximum 4GB of system memory.

Like the Latitude above, the M4300 is available with Draft-n networking and wirless broadband options inclduing EVDO Rev A and HSDPA.

Processor choices on the M4300 range from the powerful Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 running at 1.80GHz to the insanely grunty Intel 2.40GHz Core 2 Duo (T7700) which has the 4MB L2 Cache. An NVIDIA Quadro FX 360M, 512MB Turbo Cache memory (256 dedicated) comes as standard. Theres a choice of three LCD displays up to a 15.4-inch Wide WUXGA+ Anti-Glare LCD.
