Dell has announced a new brand targeted squarely at the hottest part of the IT industry growth engine small business. With the new Vostro notebooks and desktops, the company hopes to achieve the same level of broad acceptance it achieved with large enterprise making Dell an easy choice for small business PC buyers.

It's typically a difficult place for a direct vendor to compete because small businesses typically rely on what Microsoft calls a 'trusted adviser' a value added reseller partner which will take some level of responsibility for installing a new computer and making sure it works with the office network and so on.

Dell has been making noises about working with these resellers instead of cutting them out like an unwanted middleman. But Dell has made such noises before. Now with its growth stalled it looks like Dell could be serious about it and has even come up with the perfect product to take to market.

Having recently jazzed up its Inspiron line which was so popular with small business, the company's product range had room for a vanilla line of notebooks and desktops that emphasise "quality and value" says Dell.

Better still over the new brand comes shipped with no trialware infestation and has Dell Automated PC Tune-Up which keeps Vostro systems running at peak level. This utility combines 30 tuning, performance, security and maintenance tasks to one click. Including the following:
  • Assists with hard drive defragmentation, and removes unwanted and temporary files;
  • Enables automatic Windows  updates for improved system responsiveness;

  • Verifies "restore" points for better operation and data recovery.
