With the huge growth in notebook computers in the market, there is no doubt an equally huge market for devices that make them easier to work with.

Laptops are now taking over the desktop, but typically users are faced with the choice of struggling with the touchpad navigation device, pluging the unit into some sort of docking station or connecting a mouse every time you want to take the laptop off your lap.

All good solutions to be sure, but Logitech the mouse magicians have come up with another solution that looks likely to prove more popular over time.

The Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks includes what the company describes as a plug-and-forget nano-receiver. It's your regular USB receiver, but it's tiny, well stubby. Protruding just a few millimetres from the USB port so that you can plug it in and leave it in without fear of it catching on something, breaking off or just making it impossible to fit into your notebook bag.

In fact the receiver sticks out just 8 mm from the edge of the computer, so you probably will forget it is in there till you run out of USB ports, that is.

It just means you don't need to constantly plug and unplug it when moving from place to place. Just whip out your mouse and you're ready to go.

"More and more laptop users are abandoning the touch pad in favour of a cordless notebook mouse," said Marco Manera, Logitech's Managing Director, Australia and New Zealand. "However, with most notebook mice, the size of the receiver forces people to plug and unplug the receiver each time they use the laptop. Because we were able to make the nano-receiver so small, it can remain plugged into the laptop at all times so on-the-go notebook users save valuable time and never have to worry about where the receiver is."

The Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks will be available in mid-September in Australia and carries an RRP of A$129. Not bad pricing for the laser mouse and what is being billed as the "world's smallest USB receiver for mice (when compared with other 27 MHz USB receivers for notebook mice commercially available as of March 1, 2007)".

Logitech says the VX Nano mouse you get in the kit has a hyper-fast scrolling mode which allows you to fly through long documents with the flick of a finger. To shift back to the precise scrolling mode you just press and click the scroll wheel.

based on Logitech's 2.4 GHz digital cordless technology, the VX Nano mouse has a low-profile design for portability to ensure it slips easily into your notebook bag, or even your pocket. Powered by two AAA batteries there is also a little nano-storage compartment for the nano-receiver.
