Following the launch of free mobile broadband accounts in Canberra and on Queensland's Gold Coast, Spin Internet has launched free Mobile Broadband for Sydneysiders.

The ISP plans to launch free mobile broadband offerings in Melbourne in the following weeks, with Perth and Adelaide to follow in the coming months.

Spin Internet's Marketing Manager Bill McArthur says "Our idea is based on Google's free Internet offer to the City of San Francisco. As far as we've seen, the San Francisco free offer still hasn't gone live. We are extremely proud to offer this service to Sydney and to beat Google in setting up a major International city for mobile broadband."

company originally launched the free mobile broadband deals in Canberra and then the Gold Coast. The copmany says the success of the offer in these locations has convinced Spin Internet that it can offer the deal in other iBurst coverage locations.

As with the Canberra and Gold Coast plans, Spin will provide 200Mb of free data per month (upload and download combined) on their iBurst subscription.

It is going to cost you A$259.95 for the USB modem and hefty A$149.95 for the set up fee, but so long as you stay under a 200Mb per month freebie limit, you'll not pay again.

The iBurst technology allows users to connect at up to 1Mbps - even while travelling - so it would be easy forthe unwary to exceed the limit. Once a user goes over the 200Mb, there will be a 22 cent charge per Mb.

McArthur adds, "We're also glad to beat the government to the punch by offer mobile broadband to Sydney residents now. As there is an election coming up soon, we don't know if this promise is political or not. It does however give an example of what can be accomplished by a mid-sized company that is growing fast and determined to lead the world in an Internet first."

The iBurst network now covers Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Canberra with small parts of Adelaide and Perth now live.
