Nokia
has announced a new flip phone, the 3G capable 6555. The elegant
designed phone has a sleek new hinge that allows the device to open
with a smooth edge. An analog clock on the front of the case gives the
6555 a tempting old-world feel.
The new WCDMA and quadband GSM phone is priced at approximately €200
(estimated retail before subsidies or taxes), but it's not a smartphone, the 6555 is targeted at the "discerning" buyer.
The 6555 seems designed to tempt the senses with "original
design and quality workmanship " to augment its "outstanding features"
which don't seem to rate a mention in the press announcement.
The Nokia 6555 meets the desire for aesthetic
appeal with an external analog clock echoing the timeless elegance of
high-end luxury, says Nokia. THe recessed hinge, for example, allows the Nokia 6555 to create a seamless line
when opened to its smooth ergonomic curve.
The internal display is a QVGA 16 million colour
screen with a 'crisp resolution' on a 240x320 screen. Photos and video
capable, the camera has a 6x zoom and the phone offers a "full
screen portrait viewfinder" and a self-portrait function. Onboard
storage is only 30MB but there is a microSD slot for expandable memory.
"Mobile-savvy consumers expect superior quality and
design. We understood that need, and so created the the Nokia 6555. The
Nokia 6555 is a sophisticated accessory delivering the outstanding
features that you expect from Nokia," said Markku Suomi, Product Group
Director, Mobile Phones, Nokia.
