Vodafone will open a massive sixty store within-a-store kiosks inside Myer department stores over the next two years in a move that could signal a new aggressive retail strategy in Australia's tumultuous mobile phone environment.

According to reports the two companies signed a mobile products after Myer approached a range of phone companies earlier this year. Myer chief executive Bernie Brookes said the deal represented a new direction for Myer, allowing it to meet an increasing consumer interest in mobile products, services and content that complements fashion tastes and lifestyle needs.

The first has already opened in the Queensland store at Chermside with 19 more scheduled to open in time for Christmas.

"There is definitely something very exciting and sophisticated in the way Vodafone sells mobile," Mr Brookes said.

Vodafone said the Myer deal is part of the company's aggressive retail expansion strategy that will see the mobile phone retailer virtually double its presence in Australia within two years.

Vodafone Australia CEO Russell Hewitt said the Myer deal was a major coup. "It opens up a premier, new retail environment that gives us prime exposure to Myer customers, who typically seek out stylish, high-quality products." The company has previously flagged its intention to become more agressive in retail and this latest deal is Vodafone's second following the signing of Crazy John's following its fall out with previous partner Tesltra.

"We're making significant, ongoing investment in our mobile network, we're continually bringing compelling new products and content to market and we're working hard to enhance our customer service experience," said Hewitt.
