HP has added three new business notebooks including an ultra-light Tablet PC and two 8000 series laptops with large 17 inch displays, plenty of graphics grunt and up to 4GB RAM.

The most mobile of the three new devices is the 12.1-inch widescreen convertible tablet, the HP Compaq 2710p. The screen is an Illumi-Lite (LED backlight) display which delivers a lighter and more energy-efficient notebook. The chemically-strengthened glass top provides improved durability and an enhanced writing experience, says the company.

The HP Compaq 8710 series and HP Compaq 8510 series cover quite a range of configurations and so differ in price by as much as $1500 depending on how much power you want. To make it easier to differentiate its business notebook range, HP has introduced a new model number scheme based around three product groupings -- Ultra-Light (2000), Balanced Mobility (6000) and High Performance (8000).

Then HP breaks out four feature packages - standard (s), business (b), professional (p) and workstation (w) - so customers can easily identify the feature set that best aligns with their particular needs.

"The latest business notebooks offer HP customers greater choice - whether they prefer ultra-portability, high performance or a notebook that combines a balance of features, HP has a notebook to suit their needs," said Jerel Chong, Market Development Manager, Commercial Notebooks, HP Australia. "HP has continued to drive innovation in business notebook design, with features such as DuraKeys, which are up to 50 times more resistant that competitor keyboards, and the stylish design of the new ultra-thin convertible 2710p notebook PC."

Priced from A$3,999 the 2710p convertible weighs as little as 1.65 kg in minimum spec. The swivel screen transforms from an ultra-light notebook into pen-based tablet. If you don't mind a little extra weight an optional ultra-slim battery accessory provides up to 10 hours battery life. Back at the office you can get an ultra-slim docking solution with DVD+/-RW drive.

The 8710p Notebook starts at A$2,999 for the professional model with the top-end 8710w Workstation version priced from A$4,699, while the 8510 series (which weighs 2.77kg) is priced from A$3,099 for the professional version and from A$4,399 for the 8510w Mobile Workstation.

Being business oriented notebooks has crammed them full of CIO goodies and based them around Intel's Centrino Pro Mobile technology. HP's Out of Band Management Console, a component of HP's Software's PC Configuration Management Solution, helps reduce desk-side visits and Drive Encryption protects your data if the device is lost or stolen.
