Not exactly a portable solution to notebook sound, but with more and more laptops being used for gaming and entertainment such as DVD playback, this latest offering fromLogitech may be of interest for the deskbound.

Logitech's AudioHub Notebook Speaker System combines a one-piece 2.1 speaker system with a three port Hi-Speed USB hub in a package designed to fitsnugly behind your lappie. At about nine centimetres high the AudioHub is a low-profile design with adjustable-width speakers to position the satellites around your notebook depending on size.

Logitech says the AudioHub speakers with its sub woofer in the rear provides "exceptional digital audio" and there's no reason not to believe them with the A$149 price tag this should provide a reasonable sound.

The single component device has a three-chamber speaker system with an integrated subwoofer that creates balanced audio with clear highs and solid lows, says its maker.

There are three USB ports in the hub, which is required because the speakers are designed to sit up close behind your notebook where the USB ports are usually located. So the whole thing works a bit like a docking station in that you can connect or disconnect the speakers along with all your accessories (such as webcam and printer) with a single cable between theAudioHub and your notebook. You can mute the speakers without cutting power to your USB hub.

The base has a cable management system to keep your cords tidy as they pass from the devices along the back of the AudioHub, while a removable stand also conveniently holds a webcam in place.

"Today, a broad range of people - not just traditional road warriors - are using their notebooks as their primary home computer and digital music platform," said Marco Manera, Logitech's Managing Director, Australia and New Zealand. "As this trend grows, people are adding peripherals - including webcams and wireless mice - to their notebook stations. The Logitech AudioHub provides an elegant, one-stop notebook solution that allows people to manage their peripherals and enhance their listening experience."

The AudioHub will be available in Australia by October, 2007 for A$149 RRP.
