Amidst a storm of controversy over online coverage of the first test
in Brisbane, mobile carrier 3's coverage of the Sri Lankans in Brisbane
kicked off yesterday with 24/7 coverage of the match.
3 has gone all out on its cricket coverage this year (it's a major
sponsor) after a hugely successful launch of its Cricket Channel during
last year's Ashes series.
This year the carrier has introduced it's own Cricket show called the Pitch which it is producing in-house.
This latest
made-for-mobile addition is screened on each day of cricket throughout
the summer with Darren 'Boof' Lehmann and the up-and-coming,
infectiously enthusiastic Ally Pinnock hosting the show. Darren and
Ally give a "behind-the-scenes tour of the fans and follies" of the 3
mobile Test Series.
Global media organisations, including News Limited refused to cover
the first day of the test yesterday after the sport's organising body
refused creditation to journalists for media organisations who had not
signed up to new, restrictive licensing agreements covering online
content.
But 3's coverage went ahead as planned offering post play interviews with players and officials, press conference
coverage, highlights from the day's play, competitions, fan vox pops, and
exclusive behind-the-scenes footage.
3's Cricket TV service also delivers LIVE Channel Nine coverage
of the match. 3's sponsorship of the Australian Test Cricket team in Australia and
domestic Test cricket includes exclusive telecommunications rights for
3G., explained Tanya Bowes, Director, Communications and Corporate Affairs at 3.
"3 first began providing live cricket mobile TV in 2005 with the
Johnnie Walker Super Series. This year 3's Cricket TV includes Channel
9's live broadcast as well as The Pitch - a brand new show exclusively
on 3 mobiles with Darren Lehman and Ally Pinnock, shown each day of
cricket throughout the summer with a behind the scenes look at the 3
mobile Test Series," she told mobilised.
Available to 3 subscribers over the 3G network, viewers have the choice
of subscribing for a month at A$4 or getting a daily pass for just A$1.
Cricket TV is also available as art of the $8 Essentials Pack which
includes the carrier's Sport, News, Weather, Comedy and Mobile Web
access.
