Mobile operator 3 has doubled the data allowance for its mobile
broadband plans delivering a New Year's bonus to both existing and new
customers.
The new plans are A$29 per month for 2GB of data (previously 1GB), $49
per month for 4GB (previously 2GB) and $69 per month for 6GB
(previously 3GB) of data. All plans comes with a free USB modem if you
sign up for a 24 month contract. The service is fully HSDPA-capable now
delivering theoretical speeds up to 3.6Mbps with typical speeds ranging
from
600kpbs to 1.5Mbps.
The carrier has also introduced a new plan for its existing postpaid
phone customers who can get 500 megabytes of data for just a $15 per
month. The move adds more pressure to the price war that escalated in
the lead up to Christmas with 3, Vodofone and Optus all delivering new
plans with more data for less money. Telstra has so far stuck to its
premium pricing making only minor adjustments to its NextG data plans
in response to the competitive pressures.
In November Vodafone announced a
5GB plan for A$39 per month that was valid to people signing up prior
to New Year's day, however the company still has the same offer running
today (15th January, 2007). Meanwhile a 3GB plan on the
Telstra BigPond service will set users back $114.95. This service is on
Telstra's HSDPA network and capable of delivering a theoretical 6Mbps.
"The demand for mobile broadband is undoubtedly increasing at a fast
pace, and for people wanting to connect to the Internet without being
tied to a fixed line at a very affordable price, 3 Mobile Broadband is
a great solution," said Noel Hamill, director Sales, Marketing and
Product.
"Our recent half price mobile broadband promotional offer was very well
received. We believe doubling the data with our new plans will speak to
our customers and more people who want to realise the benefits of a
personal broadband experience - surfing the net, accessing emails and
downloading content - on the go for a lot less," said Hamill.
3 customers with an existing 24 month mobile broadband plan will move
onto the new plan from their next bill, with customers on the old A$29
per month plan will have their 1GB data allowance doubled.
3's new pricing is available from Wednesday, 16th January from any 3 Store or Dealer or 3 Direct.
