Nokia has long talked about how mobile phone users will adopt the
idea of blogging their personal lives on a massive scale and it's
latest midrange handset, the 6220 Classic pursues that dream by putting
the tools you need to share into more hands.
Announced along with a number of other handsets at
the GSMA Mobile
World Congress 2008 in Barcelona, Spain, the Nokia 6220 classic,
combines a 5 megapixel camera with A-GPS
(assisted GPS) functionality to make it easy to take quality images and
videos then tag, edited and share them online, from phone-to-phone or
even on a television.
The new phone, which is expected to ship in the 3rd quarter this year will have an estimated retail price of 325 euros, before
taxes and subsidies.
Teamed with a Xenon flash with Carl Zeiss optics and the phone's
high speed mobile broadband capabilities Nokia hopes the phone will
help it push its own sharing portal Ovi, although the phone will also
work directly with Yahoo!'s FLickr photo sharing site.
"The
Nokia 6220 classic will help web 2.0 novices and experienced bloggers
snap, save and share pictures and videos easily. Saving, tagging and
uploading pictures can now be done on the phone, seconds after the
picture has been taken," says John Barry, Director, Connect devices,
Nokia. "The Nokia 6220 classic, with its 5 megapixel camera, auto focus
and xenon flash is a credible and reasonably priced alternative to
single-purpose digital cameras and has the added benefit of A-GPS for
location tagging, Nokia Maps and possibility to upgrade to full
navigation."
The geo-tagging features which Nokia is rolling out across its product
line along with assisted GPS support which takes information from phone
tower triangulation to help get fast global positioning will integrate
with Nokia's new Nokia Maps 2.0 which will also come pre-loaded onto
the 6220.
Nokia's mapping application also helps consumers navigate their way from
place to place and helps them locate restaurants, hotels, tourist
attractions and other points of interest.
The phone is pre-loaded the WidSets service to make getting at web content like news updates, games and web communities. much easier using widgets.
All in all, the 6220 might be the name of a classic Nokia handset from yesteryear, but the feature set is more like the feautres you might have found on a high-end Nokia nSeries or eSeries devices from yesterday. The 6220 is a fully featured
converged device combining high speed Internet
browsing, email, media player with FM radio with RDS and support for 8GB memory cards.
Nokia has also included support for Adaptive
Multi Rate - Wideband speech coding technology which gives a more natural
sound to the human voice in phone calls and helps in noisy environments.
