Sony Ericsson has announced the W890i phone is now available in
Australia and has tagged it with a RRP of A$899. Though the company
announced the next generation Walkman W980 last month it is likely to
be at least six months before that model is available locally.
The W890i will keep you going until the. With a standard 2GB music
storage capacity and 3.2 megapixel camera, the W890i has a lower spec
than the next generation and it is only available in Sparkling Silver
rather than piano black planned for the Walkman W980i, but this Walkman
does feature the new Walkman 3.0 firmware and it is nearly 25 per cent
lighter than the W980 will be.
Josh Oxspring, Marketing Manager of Oceania at Sony Ericsson, says the
W890i addresses the needs of "young, fashion-conscious music lovers"
who will make the most of Sony Ericsson's music and communications
feature set.
The Walkman phone has a host of music centred features such as
SensMe which matches your music to your mood. The SensMe music
experience automatically plots your music by tempo and mood so that you
can pick what mood you are in and let the phone choose your songs. The
Walkman 3.0 firmware offers users single click method of accessing the
music player and simple navigation to individual songs. Music can be
organised by artist, album, or even visually, by using album cover art.
In the Australian bundle, the company is providing a 2GB Memory Stick Micro that
will store up to 1800 songs. The phone memory is only 28MB, so an
expansion card is a necessary addition to use the phone's music
capabilities. Otherwise you would be relying on the built-in FM radio
for your tunes.
Fortunately, the phone is 3.5G and
supports the HSDPA most carriers offer in metropolitan areas at least,
so you can download music and view web pages at speeds up to four times
faster than those of regular 3G devices.
