Network operator Hutchison's 3 Mobile has served up another great summer of cricket with customers tuning
in over 1.2 million times to watch Cricket TV with live Channel Nine
coverage, replays and archive footage.
In total, 3 reports, 3 customers accessed the
services 2.8
million times. That included the new in-house produced made-for-mobile
TV program "The Pitch" featuring Darren 'Boof' Lehmann and Ally
Pinnock. The show, an Australian industry first was produced by 3
itself in addition to the licenced content available on the sports
channel.
Mira Bashi, 3’s General Manager of Product and Services, said; “Like
the Aussie team, 3 has worked hard to satisfy Australia’s insatiable
appetite for cricket news and action throughout the season. The launch
of The Pitch has been a hit all season with customers, allowing them to
witness historic moments such as Gilly’s press conference for his
retirement announcement, and interviews with the players just as they
come off the field from play. 3’s Cricket TV has delivered a truly
comprehensive and feature packed service to all cricket fans.”
The show, which had player interviews, game news and
around the ground action was watched more than 21,000
times.
In fact, the season even eclipsed last year's bumper summer for 3.
During the 3
mobile Ashes Series against England in 2006/2007 cricket fans used more
than 2 million cricket services. Coupled with the outstanding success
of the FIFA World Cup coverage on
Planet 3 Sport the operator was awarded the "Best Interactive
Service on a Wireless Network Award" at the 13th Annual AIMIA Awards.
3 Mobile's coverage of the
First Test was a success with the company serving up more than 270,000
live streams of the action and a total of 380,000 Ashes Series services including live streams,
video highlights, match reviews, alerts, games and tones.
In all, the Sport content on Planet 3, including live streams, was
accessed over 10.8 million times in 2006. The year before, during the
05/06 season 3 customers viewed over 500,000 live streams.
