Mobile phone headsets based on the latest specification of Bluetooth, Version 2.0 will allow for longer battery life and open up new possibilities in multi-use scenarios.

GN Mobile is making a big deal about being the first manufacturer to release a headset based on the latest Bluetooth standard. The fact that the company was first with a headset based on versions 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 lends some credence to the claim for fame.

Bluetooth version 2.0 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) will triple the data transmission speed to 2.1 Mbps, lowering power use in the processes. This translates to better battery life for headsets, obviously, but will also herald a new class of solutions such as multiple use or multi-link scenarios such as talking on the headset while synchronising a phone and PC via the Bluetooth link, explains the company.

“GN Mobile is committed to incorporating the latest version of Bluetooth technology into its products so that we can offer customers the best possible end user experience.  Bluetooth 2.0 provides a fine tuned revision of previous Bluetooth standards.  In the future we will look to add EDR to Bluetooth 2.0.  Then we will see more benefits in terms of performance improvements for our headsets,” said Niels-Henrik Valentin Knudsen, Jabra senior product marketing manager.
