Though only rated as a low level threat, the world’s first Trojan that attempts to jump between mobile phone to PC is a sign of increasing sophistication in the phone malware market.
Reported recently by IDG news services, the Sybos/Cardtrap.A is first introduced to a mobile phone via a pirated game downloaded from the internet. Once on the phone it copies two Windows worms to the mobile phone's memory card in the hope that the user will then insert this card into a PC and click on one of the infected files.
The Trojan is not considered a significant risk, but marks the first time we have seen an attack that tries to move beyond mobile phones. The Trojan includes a variety of malicious programs, including a number of viruses that spread from phone to phone via Bluetooth or MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service).
It can affect mobile devices running Symbian's Series 60 operating system, as well as Microsoft's Windows operating system.
