Hard disk drives in mobile phone will project the handsets into a new era of personal entertainment faster than high speed access to content service providers will.
The SPH-V7900 is a clamshell design and is the second in the company’s line-up to have a disk drive. The first, SPH-V5400, introduced a year ago sported only a 1.5GB drive.

With 3GB, however, Samsung says the phone will store two full-length movies or more than 700 4Mb music files.

So far the device is only available in Korea, but similar models are expected to appear in Australia eventually. The phone is a CDMA EV-DO cellular, but it’s also a 2MP digital still and video camera with 2x optical zoom. The phone also has document viewer functions.

The screen is a 262k colour QVGA (240x320) LCD and weighs in at 165g. Dimensions are 103mm x 52mm x 28mm.
