The up-coming 802.11n standards will be modified to reach speeds of up to 600Mbps following a decision by the IEEE task force responsible for the development project.
The Task Force has voted to accept a joint proposal to amend the 802.11 standard to add specifications for new technologies that will offer significantly higher data rates.
The vote will see the Enhanced Wireless Consortium (EWC) proposal accepted as a base line for further development.
Though there were four abstentions, in a rare demonstration of solidarity, the vote was carried by a 184 to 0 margin.
