We won’t see it locally for another two or three months, but the latest i-mate smartphone comes in a flip phone form factor that’s sure to interest users not looking for a full PDA-style smartphone.

Dubbed, the i-mate SmartFlip the Windows Mobile v5.0-based device isn’t even officially announced yet, so pricing is still a mystery. Though it’s not announced yet, the company was bandying the thing around at the recent 3GSM Expo in Barcelona where the device got rave reviews.

The SmartFlip is powered by a Texus Instruments OMAP 850 processor running at 195 MHz.

With a  2.2 inch 240 x 320 (QVGA) TFT display, plus a 1.2 inch 128x128 on the outside the GSM (quad-band, 850/900/1800/1900 MHz) camera phone has a 1.3 megapixel CMOS.

Storage is by way of 64 MB Flash, 64 MB SDRAM and a microSD slot.

Featuring GPRS / E-GPRS, Bluetooth v1.2 and Infrared IrDA as well as mini-USB, the phone lacks Wi-Fi connectivity.

On the plus side, this phone is as thin, or thinner, than the Motorola RAZR and is not as wide according to reports.
