Yahoo! and Nokia have announced an agreement that will connect existing and future Nokia smartphone users to access a wide range of Yahoo! internet services. Services will include ring tones, wallpapers and games for the mass market, but will also include e-mail and Yahoo! Search for Mobile which could tempt the business community.
Other Services may follow. Yahoo! access will be available on Series 60 Nokia devices. Nokia claims to be the first handset manufacturer with Symbian-based products to distribute Yahoo! services for consumers worldwide. Australian users will also be able to access the service according to a Nokia press statement.First phones of the rank are the 6680, 6681 and 6630 phones with more devices to be announced. Existing owners will have to wait until the second half of this year to download the applications. "Access to information, entertainment and the ability to stay in touch when and where you want is at the heart of our vision of a mobile connected life," said Harry Santamäki, Vice President, Strategy and Business Development, Nokia Multimedia. "Our agreement with Yahoo! is a progressive step in facilitating the adoption of an online lifestyle: we are providing consumers with a familiar way of accessing the internet and Yahoo! email through their mobile devices, with the added convenience of content downloads on the go." Juha Varelius, VP & MD of Yahoo! Mobile said: "With consumers' lives across the world becoming increasingly centred around mobile communications, this new international relationship between Yahoo! and Nokia is a great way for people to have the Yahoo! internet experience on their Nokia phone and benefit from a range of essential services on the go."
