Wth the rumour mill churning furiously over the announcement behind ISP iiNet's trading suspension, Vodafone has denied any plans to acquire the company.
Though we reported here and here, that Vodafone is widely believed to be in the market for a fixed-line broadband provider, a company spokesperson has gone on record to deny rumours Vodafone is in negotiations with Perth-based ISP iiNet.
On Monday mobilised contacted Vodafone PR representatives to ask if the company could deny rumours of an impending deal with iiNet.
The local subsidiary had to consult its London parent before replying, which it did late today.
In an email to mobilised, Public Relations Manager for Vodafone’s Business division said that while the company will not normally comment on rumours directly his “enquiries have found nothing to support this speculation.”
Not the strongest denial mobilised has heard, but it does not particularly sound like a veiled yes either.
On Friday mobilised reported that iiNet had requested a Trading Halt on the ASX Thursday, which then became a Suspension from Quotation and the timeframe for a return to normal trading was pushed out to late this week following company plans to make an announcement.
Just what that announcement may be has been the subject of speculation ever since.
With only two days left in the week, we should not have to wait much longer.
