Page 1 of 2 Pioneer Computers has beaten the market to release the first AMD Turion 64x2 laptops using processors still hot off the chip Fab.
The Turion 64x2 dual core processors were only released this month and most makers are not expected to make any announcements until the Computex exhibition in Taipei in the second week of June.
Quick off the mark though, Pioneer has announced not one but three new models based around this fast, low-powered new processor. The DreamBook Slim 8858, the DreamBook Light 8824 are two models most cn afford while the 19-inch DreamBook M59 is priced for people who take their multimedia seriously.
As an indication, the DreamBook series is available on a Build-to-Order basis and upgrading the M59 to a top-of-the-range AMD Turion 64x2 Dual Core TL64 Mobile Processor adds a hefty $629 to the entry price of price $4999.
In contrast the RRP for the Slim 8858 and Light 8824 start at a very affordable $1499.
The DreamBook Light 8824 comes with 14.1” Wide Screen, WXGA with a resolution of 1280x800 (16:10 Ratio), while the DreamBook Slim 8858 features a 15.4” Wide WXGA, with the same resolution.
On notable feature on these two offerings is the inclusion of the emerging 54mm ExpressCard Slot, which will progressively replace the traditional PC Card expansion slots found in almost all notebooks today.
The new format is developed by the same not-for-profit industry organisation behind the PC Card format and is designed to deliver higher performance for modular expansion at a lower cost and smaller form factor.
