With AMD’s new Turion 64X2 processors now hitting the market, system builders will be looking for a suitable graphics solution, ATI was quick to offer up its new Radeon Xpress 1100 Series for notebook PCs.
The new graphics chipsets for notebook motherboards supporting Turion 64 X2 technology will help deliver industry-leading battery life, faster graphics, and future proof systems for Windows Vista, says the company.
ATI Technologies’ Radeon Xpress 1100 series teamed with the new Turion processors will deliver a 33 % faster graphics response without sacrificing heat, size, weight or battery life. The chipset maker is promising a 33% performance boost over its Radeon Xpress 200M.
Web reports suggest there will be at least two versions of the 1100, with a 1150 chipset running a 400MHz core.
Utilising ATI's fifth-generation power management technology, Powerplay, the systems will automatically adjust the balance between performance and power consumption based on the workload by changing clock speed and voltage of the Radeon graphics core, and the LCD refresh rate.
"As industry leaders, ATI and AMD share a common goal to improve the mobile computing experience by increasing and optimizing performance, while driving thin and light notebook designs. AMD Turion 64 X2 mobile technology has been designed for that purpose, with long battery life and reliability.
"When combined with ATI's Radeon Xpress 1100 series of chipsets, the two complementary technologies, designed for power efficiency and performance, deliver a leading-edge mobile computing experience," said Chris Cloran, vice president, mobile division, AMD.
"The ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 series of chipsets for AMD-based notebook platforms delivers mobile computing at its best. With industry-leading battery life, superior graphics and digital media capabilities, and support for Microsoft Windows Vista, the ATI platform powered by AMD Turion 64 X2 mobile technology is well-suited for businesses and consumers alike," said Phil Eisler, senior vice president and general manager, Integrated and Mobile Business Unit, ATI Technologies.
