Nokia has just wound up its Connections 2006 press, partner and
analyst event in Singapore
where it announced five new mid-range handsets, strengthening its mid-range
portfolio in WCDMA, GSM and CDMA phones.
Not all handsets are likely to make it to Australian
consumers, two are CDMA phones, which will have no network locally once Telstra
migrates from its CDMA network.
Another is a low cost GSM handset apparently aimed at
first-time users and probably targeted at developing markets.
There are a couple of handsets which are of interest, a new
entry-level 3G phone which Nokia says is its lowest cost 3G handset ever, and an
EDGE capable Triband GSM phone with an emphasis on messaging and
personalisation.
"With more than 100 operators offering 3G services in
the world today, consumers around the globe are now realising the many benefits
that 3G offers, ranging from faster browsing, streaming and email to music
downloads and multiplayer games," said Kai Öistämö, Executive Vice
President and General Manager, Mobile Phones, Nokia.
"Its sleek design and affordable pricing makes the
Nokia 6151 a very attractive 3G handset. Models like the Nokia 6151 are certain
to make 3G services even more accessible to a broader range of consumers."
The phones will be made available progressively over the
next six months.
