The best time to ask somebody what they think of something
is right when they are in the middle of it. But how can market research
companies do that when whatever it is you are doing is outside the home? Catch
you on your mobile.
Premium phone service provider Legion Interactive (think AUstralian Idol, Big Brother, My Restaurant Rules) has teamed
up with market research consultancy The Leading Edge, to put together a
solution to the mobile opinion dilemma and I'm not sure we are going to like
it.
Not content with getting you in your home, the two companies
- who are both subsidiaries of The Photon Group - have joined forces to pioneer
a way to get consumer's thoughts and perceptions while you're on the spot.
Using Legion Interactive's MediacastActive product, tailored
specifically to The Leading Edge's requirements, the system allows SMS, MMS or
email video footage, pictures and text messages to be sent to a dedicated
number and/or email address.
The Leading Edge reckons it can use this system to deliver
interactive market research.
"This is the cutting edge of consumer involvement as
everyone with a mobile phone is a potential data collector and therefore able
to capture tangible information that is time and date stamped," said David
Burden, CEO of Legion Interactive.
"Our product efficiently sorts, filters, manages and
displays interactions in the format of our client's choice, providing an ease
of reporting and data analysis," said David.
"As a society we are becoming increasingly mobile and our
communications channels more varied and fragmented. From a market research
industry perspective we need to be thinking ahead as to what technologies will
enable us to work more effectively and efficiently in delivering research based
solutions to our clients marketing needs," said Simon Whitcher, The Leading
Edge.
"By working with Legion Interactive we have developed a
product helps us to deal with these issues by enabling us to capture
information in difficult to reach situations in real time," he said.
