The smallest Nokia E Series yet, the E50 targets business
users looking for a cost efficient way to deploy email and data capabilities to
large numbers in their workforce. But don't let the E50's business credentials
fool you; this phone still has the music player, camera and large screen you'd
expect with a lifestyle phone. You can even switch off the business number at
night and leave your personal phone number active.
Actually, the 1.3 megapixel camera with video capabilities
and a 4x zoom is an option, so business buyers can opt out of that feature if
required.
The neat thing about the E50 is that it supports two phone
numbers in one phone, so if you are using it for work/play you can assign
different numbers for each.
This helps you manage personal and business calls separately
and at the end of the day, 'turn off' the work number while keeping private
number active.
This is an enterprise phone for business users, so Nokia has
heaped in plenty of advanced call handling capabilities which allow the phone
to be integrated with existing PBX infrastructure back at the office. This
allows for mobile least cost routing to help save on calls by routing mobile
phone calls through the corporate PBX rather than the carrier's network
ensuring there's no additional charges for calling overseas.
Companies using Avaya Communication Manager IP Telephony, can
even connect the Nokia E50 directly to their company phone networks, using the Avaya one-X Mobile Edition for S60 client.
The phone even supports Presence, so you can see the status
of colleagues (possibly including availability, location, call and connection
status, and current activity) and bring desk phone functions like call
forwarding, hold, conference calls, and short numbers to your mobile phone.
Because you will be working most of the time when using this
phone, Nokia has built plenty of smarts in to make this easy. The higher
quality hands free speakerphone caters for conference calls and lets you use
your calendar, SMS and email while you're still on the call.
The Nokia Office Tools software supports team collaboration
by allowing you to create and edit work-related (or personal teams) so you can easily
initiate a conference call or Push-to-talk session with them all easily, or send
a group SMS/MMS/voicemail or email to them all in one hit.
Voice support lets you make calls using hands-free name dialling
or launch applications using voice commands. User-configurable commands lets
you design voice commands to access the phone features you choose.
Built on the Series 60 3rd edition smartphone platform and
Symbian OS for enhanced security features and device control, the Nokia E50
supports popular corporate mobile email solutions, including Nokia's Intellisync
Wireless Email, BlackBerry Connect, Visto Mobile and Microsoft ActiveSync.
The Nokia E50 also includes a search function enabling fast
queries into critical data, such as contacts, emails and messages. Important
business attachments received via email, such as documents, presentations and
spreadsheets, can be swiftly accessed via the Quickoffice viewer.
The thinnest Nokia Eseries quad-band phone, the Nokia E50
supports GSM networks (850/900/1800/1900). The monoblock weighs a comfortable 104g,
it is 113mm long and 43.5mm wide, with a depth of 15.5mm. The display is a 262K
Colour LCD at 240 x 320 pixels with adjustable display brightness
A large memory storage with up to 70MB of built-in memory,
plus support for microSD card lets the boss get his data on the phone, but
still offers the option of adding a little music to pass the time or keep you
happy on the weekend.
Talk time on the E50 is rated at up to six hours, enough to
get you through a busy day out of the office. Standby is up to 9 days.
