Motorola has announced a bevy of new phones including souped
up versions of its RAZR which support high-speed downloads. Also new to the
range are the slimline KRZR and RIZR phones as well as a high-speed SLVR supporting
EV-DO.
The company also announced that starting next year, its new phones
will have Yahoo Internet Link pre-installed to give easy access to search,
e-mail and address book functionality. The "Yahoo Go for Mobile"
clients will be included in handsets across Europe, Asia, and the US.
Three of the new handsets bring HSDPA and EV-DO download
speeds to existing models, while the KRZR K1 is like a narrow RAZR and the RIZR
is the company's first slider for the GSM market
Two new 3G RAZRs, the MOTORAZR xx and MOTORAZR maxx, feature
HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) speeds while the MOTOSLVR L7c puts
EV-DO into the standard SLVR handset.
This allows the RAZR xx and maxx to download at a
phenomenal 3.6MB per second while the SLVR L7c will achieve the slightly more
modest broadband speed of 3.1Mbps.
"Motorola is opening the door to mobile broadband and giving
consumers the opportunity to experience so much more with their mobile phones,"
said Ron Garriques, president, Mobile Devices, Motorola.
"The HSDPA and EV-DO technology inherent in MOTORAZR xx,
MOTORAZR maxx and MOTOSLVR L7c will help operators offer new, differentiated
services; letting consumers learn more, connect more and have more fun."
