Beefing up the familiar RAZR handset, Motorola adds High-Speed
Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) and EDGE (Enhanced Data for Global Evolution)
wireless connectivity to bring the RAZR up to speed with the next generation
networks.
The RAZR MAXX is a quad-band phone with HSDPA, which many
network operators are currently migrating too, opens up a world of difference
to data transmission on mobile devices. The broadband-like speeds of 3.6Mbps
work hand in hand with the multimedia functions of tomorrow's handsets allowing
for near instantaneous music downloads, advanced image and video transfer
capabilities and access to all sorts of multimedia content at previously
unimaginable speeds.
The RAZR maxx supports two-way video calling at up to 15
frames per second, fast access to your email, Internet browsing and
blazing-fast and over the air (OTA) music and video downloads of the latest
entertainment and news.
Implanted with a 2 megapixel, video capable camera both
front and back to accommodate video calling, the MOTORAZR maxx features
the same premium materials as its forefather the RAZR. Two-way Video Calling
happens at up to 15 frames per second.
The integrated music player is operated by external, illuminated
touch-sensitive music keys and the 50MB on-broad storage can be
backed up by a whopping great 2GB of microSD memory card. The player
supports a wide range of codecs including AAC, WMA, MP3, and Real.
Weighing a slender 104 grams and only 12 or 13mm thick this
is a 3G phone of true RAZR proportions.
The phone has a metal housing and chemically hardened glass
displays inside the flip and on the front. The main display is a 2.2 inch 256k
colour screen
The RAZR xx is a slightly downmarket version, it seems
without the sexy touch-sensitive music buttons on the front. The RAZR xx has
HSDPA and Edge for all the fast data access functionality is the same. The same
goes for the music player which has stereo Bluetooth profiles and most of the
goodies you find in the maxx RAZR.
The xx may be destined for the US market and despite a slightly
less powerful camera, (just 1.3 megapixels) the RAZR xx is sure to be a hit.
Both handsets are powered by Arm's ARM11 processors and
early reports indicate that this has made a noticeable difference to the
phone's speed over earlier RAZRs.
Both the MOTORAZR maxx and the xx are expected to be
available in the second half of 2006.
