Two New Blackberry Handsets At Vodafone |

Vodafone is launching two new BlackBerry handsets onto the
Australian market adding the 8707v and 7130v to its 3G mobile network. One, a
quad-band UMTS device will roam anywhere as it also supports 850/900/1800/1900
MHz GSM/GPRS.
The 8707v is Vodafone's first BlackBerry device that is UMTS-enabled
to allow it to take advantage of international 3G roaming.
The company also announced that it will make the BlackBerry
Enterprise Server Express software available as a free download for customers
who buy a new BlackBerry from Vodafone. Enterprise Server Express supports
mobile push email and supports leading Instant Messaging (IM) platforms,
including Microsoft Windows Messenger, Live Communications Server 2005 and IBM
Lotus Sametime.
It also includes the full range of BlackBerry applications
including calendar, contacts, tasks and memo pad.
The single user license included in the free download can be
upgraded to support 11 users for a price. Subsequent user licences are sold in
sets of five. For more than 11 users the free download can be upgraded to the
full BlackBerry Enterprise Server package with an unlock key.
Vodafone is also selling a services package for $350 with
which a dedicated installation engineer will talk customers through the set-up procedure
via a phone call.
"Aussie business execs need to get out more," said Cameron
Levick, General Manager for Vodafone Queensland
and Northern Territory.
"Mobile access to email and
business information is becoming a prerequisite for competing and winning
business and making the most of every opportunity," he said.
"When new dashboard software is released later this year, it
will also be possible to use the BlackBerry 8707v as a mobile broadband modem,
allowing customers to keep laptops connected to Vodafone's 3G mobile broadband
network," said Levick.
