I wasn't going to put this up but I've had it sent to me
twice now and mobilised is still getting lots of Google search traffic for Dell
explodes queries.
In the media world an "ambulance chaser" is a reporter who
follows an ambulance to exploit the misfortunes of others.
I hate to do it.
There's a fine line between public
awareness and exploitation, so I was in a bit of a quandary over whether to
even report the recent decision by Apple, to initiate a worldwide battery recall
for certain rechargeable batteries sold for use with 15-inch MacBook Pro computer
systems from February 2006 through May 2006. I decided not to post the news, but probably should have.
(Apple
Powerbook G4 battery explosion and another)
There was lots of Web chatter about these new Intel-based notebooks
getting hot enough to cook and egg on, but there's been no talk of them
exploding like the Dell laptops have been prone to do of late.

So that's four stories already and there have only been two
documented accounts. I wouldn't want unfairly persecute Dell, although the reports
that inside sources admitted Dell knew it had a problem with lithium ion
batteries self destructing and kept quite about it for two years before undertaking
a recall late last year, is a bit of a worry.
Anyway, that's by way of background and I think I've said
enough.
I should point out that the destruction in this story isn't
absolutely positively caused by the Dell notebook in the cab of the hunting
truck, but that's where the fire started...
The sad tale
of "Jenny", this guy's prized mint condition 1966 Ford F-250 and how
the hunters became the hunted as they were forced to run "for cover as bullets
zinged past", all makes this just to tempting to ignore on a quiet news day.
