There is a "hefty pool of untapped business waiting to be
mobilised" in the Australian market as corporates begin feeling their way
towards the second wave of mobility.
According to the latest research by IDC Australia, the local
market is looking for partners who understand their business needs and
processes in the mobility space.
The subtle differences between each vertical industry,
namely, their spending, business application deployments, and sentiments
concerning their mobility strategy will greatly influence the direction of the
greater enterprise mobility landscape in Australia, says the researcher.
"By understanding the unique needs and expectations of
organisations will mobile service and solutions providers begin to offer
convincing and contemporary solutions that businesses will appreciate,"
says Jerson Yau, IDC Australia's Associate Analyst for Wireless and Mobility.
"As far as a business is concerned with their mobility
solution, their needs outweigh the rest of the market and they will value
anyone who can - first and foremost - understand their business needs and
processes," he said.
IDC's inaugural five-year forecast of the Australian
business mobile market, called "Australia Business Mobile Vertical
2006-2010 Forecast and Analysis: Can You Read My Mind?" finds in 2005
Australian business was already spending A$4.9 billion on mobile services.
The outlook for business mobile spending is healthy with positive
growth rates across the board, led by transportation and utilities, services,
and retail and wholesale sectors.
This growth will be driven by the second wave of mobility. The
"1st wave" mobility applications, like email, are being fulfilled by off-the-shelf
products. While there is still a "hefty pool of untapped businesses" in need of
these solutions, the leading organisations are already looking for "2nd
wave" mobile applications.
This requires the integration of front and/or back office systems
while building on the first wave implementations already deployed.
Organisations in transportation and utilities,
manufacturing, services, and wholesale and distribution are some of those
businesses leading the enterprise mobility curve.
This means that mobility service and solutions vendors must play
a pivotal role in communicating to businesses the contemporary and strategic
benefits of developing and implementing a mobility strategy, says IDC.
They can do this by better understanding the business needs of
their prospects and promote relevant mobile solutions that help to mobilise the
rest of the organisation.
