A British Airways jet travelling from London
to New York
has been forced to turn back an hour into its flight when an unclaimed mobile
phone started ringing.
According to reports, the pilot decided to return to London when the phone
started ringing and nobody owned up to bringing it on board.
Following the discovery of a plot to blow up passenger jets
on route between London and the United States
was uncovered late last week all electronic items have been banned form airline
planes.
Since nobody was willing to own up to smuggling the thing on
board, the pilot decided to turn back rather than continue the flight.
A British Airways spokesperson said it was possible, but
unlikely the phone was left on board after an earlier flight.
If somebody had owned up to brining the phone on board the
flight probably would have continued, but presumably the culprit didn't want to
admit to breaking the no phone rules.
The flight resumed after security checks and arrived in New York seven hours
late.
