Fixed wireless broadband operator has decided to take its offering to the channel and is looking for resellers interested in helping it maximise the revenue from its high-speed wireless infrastructure in Sydney and Melbourne.

Although the ASX-listed company acts as a reseller itself, offering mobile broadband solutions based on Unwired and iBurst networks, the company has kept the fixed wireless business to itself so far.

BigAir owns its own wireless broadband infrastructure which operates though Sydney and Melbourne providing medium to large corporates with a fibre alternative. The service is also used as a redundant connection for companies seeking to ensure connectivity in the even their fixed-line broadband is unavailable.

BigAir's new wholesale division hopes to attract a bevy of ISPs, distributors and resellers to help the company get the best of 400,000 users estimated to move to wireless broadband by 2009.

According to IDC Australia wireless broadband is expected to achieve a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 70 per cent, well above the overall broadband market which it estimates is growing at 25 per cent CAGR.

"This launch provides an opportunity for the channel to share in the revenue generated from the 400,000 customers estimated to choose wireless over the next three years," said Jason Ashton, CEO, BigAir.

"There are a large number of businesses right now in Sydney which do not currently have high speed, symmetric broadband or fibre, and this launch allows the channel to service those customers," he said.

The company plans to help out its new channel partners by providing marketing assistance and lead generation programs including what it calls 'Campaign in a box' seminars.

It will also look at co-funding direct marketing/online programs to drive additional leads and can provide sales and technical training.

The services to be sold range from 1Mbps to 100Mbps symmetric initially, with faster speeds likely to become available in the near future. The company is considering a more to WiMAX technology.

To mark the launch of their channels division, BigAir are inviting the reseller community to a major launch function at Darling Harbour in Sydney on the 14th September.
