NETGEAR has launched a virtual networking product that challenges the traditional SSL VPN vendors to alter their price points if they want to stay in the game.

Priced at just A$749 The SSL312 ProSafe SSL VPN Concentrator 25 introduces a new opportunity for remote access in small business as it is priced significantly lower than other SSL VPN options.

The NETGEAR SSL312 ProSafe SSL (Secure Socket Layer) VPN (Virtual Private Network) Concentrator 25 lets up to 25 users at a time securely log in to access company networks using a simple browser interface.

Best of all the device is easy to setup end won't interfere with existing security measures such as firewalls, says the company.

Because its browser-based, the users don't need to install software to get access and by setting policies each user's access rights can be tailored depending on their security privileges.

"Previously, SSL VPN solutions have been out of reach for small and medium-sized businesses due to the complexity of installation and configuration, cumbersome management and initial purchase cost -- the total cost of ownership was just too high," said NETGEAR Asia Pacific vice president Ian McLean.

"As a result, smaller businesses have been forced to either provide remote access through less-than-secure means -- placing the business infrastructure in jeopardy -- or avoid providing remote access altogether. This SSL312 provides an effective solution to the challenges of remote access and is completely user-friendly," he said.

Because the appliance lets users connect through their browser it will work form their home PC or laptop as well as from an Internet Café or kiosk (with automatic cache cleanup afterwards). It even works with mobile devices such as PDAs - all in a secure access environment.

NETGEAR hasn't skimped on basic functionality to get the price down. The SSL312 still works with user repositories such as Microsoft Active Directory, LDAP and RADIUS and with the granular policy configuration tools, logging support and diagnostics, IT administrators can get complete control over the remote access.
