CFO Gets New SingTel CEO Gig Print E-mail

The Group CEO position at SingTel now has a name attached to it after the appointment of Chua Sock Koong who currently serves the company as CEO International and CFO. The appointment is expected to take effect on 1 April 2007 and could be followed by changes within the company.


Although she may look internally at the organisation Chua told a press ocnferernce announcing her appointment that the company would continue to look at increasing its regioinal investments.

Chua, who joined SingTel in 1989, will replace Lee Hsien Yang, the current Group CEO who announced his resignation would take affect once a suitable replacment was found. "The SingTel Group will be in excellent hands," said Lee of the new appointment. "As a key member of the senior management team, Sock Koong has been intimately involved in all the key operational decisions, and has had broad exposure across all areas of the business.

"She has also been instrumental to developing SingTel's strategy over the past ten years and has played a significant role in SingTel's major acquisitions, divestments and partnerships.  She is well known to our business partners and the investor community.  Having worked side-by-side with Sock Koong for many years, I am confident that she is more than qualified for her new role leading the SingTel Group."

Chua said, "Hsien Yang has built up SingTel into a very highly regarded telecom operator with an unrivalled footprint in the region.  I am honoured to be given the challenge of continuing to build on its success and to be able to work with an excellent team that any CEO would be proud to lead."

Chumpol NaLamlieng, Chairman of SingTel, said, "We are extremely fortunate to have a leader of Sock Koong's calibre and experience to take the helm.  Sock Koong has been an outstanding CFO, and the numerous awards and accolades she has received for her role as CFO in SingTel bears testimony to this.  She has been closely involved in the transformation and growth of SingTel and has played a key role in making SingTel the operationally and financially very strong company that it is today.
