Samsung's latest hit out at making a music phone is smaller
than ever before and swings away so you forget it was a phone.
Featuring an iPod style navigation wheel on the front, the SGH-X830
is the first phone we've seen that swings instead of sliding, flipping, folding
or just being a brick. Dubbed the 'Mini MP3 Phone' the X830 functions like a
MP3 player when its closed.
The user interface displays a playlist, equalizer
settings and song information making it easy to operate and navigate, but swing
this sucker open and the device doubles in length revealing a fully featured
mobile phone.
It would want to double in size, too, closed up the X830 measures
84 x 30 x 19.9mm - a little thicker than some of Samsung's slimmest phones to
allow for the swing factor.
Pop it in your pocket, though and you're only 75 grams heavier
making the mini MP3 less than twice the weight of an iPod nano - pretty
reasonable for an M3 player that's also a phone and a 1.3 megapixel camera.
The iPod-style click wheel navigation system helps get
around the Music Library organized by album name, title, artist and genre in a
single Gig of storage.
Users can also download audio files from CNN or BBC website
by podcasting function., says Samsung and there's USB 2.0 connectivity as well
as Bluetooth support for stereo wireless headsets.
Samsung hasn't dumbed the device downtoo much either, by the look of the spec. Though not a lot of information about this phone is available yet, the device does support
JAVA, WAP 2.0 and of course MMS.
Available in six colours (black, white, blue, pink, orange
and green) the X830 is destined for European release by the end of November
2006 with other markets just a promise for the moment.
