The new X60 convertible ThinkPad tablet form Lenovo knows
which way the it is being used and can automatically adjust the screen to
portrait or landscape mode accordingly.
The dynamic screen rotation feature on the X60 is a patent-pending
technology that Lenovo calls Active Rotate. As expected the screen immediately
orients to the user, no matter which direction it turns.
Lenovo has also done some work on the more traditional
tablet features like navigational tools and the pen, says the company. Now a
redesigned navigational dial lets users move easily in four directions, and it
even remaps keys so "up" is always "up" as the user changes orientation with
Active Rotate.
There's also a new, more natural and durable pen that will resume
the device from suspend mode automatically when you take the pen from its
cradle.
"The Lenovo ThinkPad X60 Tablet PC marries the best aspects
of notebooks and pen-based devices," said Peter Hortensius, senior vice president,
Notebook Business Unit, Lenovo.
"With new screen options, hardware capabilities and an
improved sensory experience interacting with the Tablet, the new Lenovo
ThinkPad X60 Tablet is packed with the innovation our customers want."
Lenovo has also bumped up the performance metrics with more
memory, larger hard drive, and longer battery life than Lenovo's previous
Tablet PC. And is (probably) the first officially announced product in the
Lenovo range to feature the Broadcom 802.11n wireless networking technology announced
last week.
Pricing for the ThinkPad X60 Tablet starts at US$1,799 and
should be available for US shipping in early December.
