Spin Internet is making a land grab for a leading position in
Australia's wireless broadband market and has announced a free mobile
broadband solution in the Nation's Capital, Canberra.
Subscribers signing up for the copmany's iBurst mobilebroabdand accounts can get 200Mb of free monhtly bandwidth.
It is going to cost
you A$259.95 for the USB modem and A$149.95 for the set up fee plus a A$10 delivery fee on the modem, but
then, so long as you stay under a 200MB per month freebie limit, you'll
not pay again. That's 200 megabits (Mb) in combined uploads and downloads. When you do go over your 200MB you will be charged at
22 cents per MB.
Spin Internet says the high speed iBurst broadband coverage is pretty
good in Canberra, and laptop users should be able to remain connected
at speeds up to 1Mbps - making it easy for the unwary to go over the limit.
Spin Internet’s Marketing Manager Bill McArthur said “We feel we have
an opportunity to do the same on a smaller scale in Australia. By
thinking outside the box we can now let the people of Canberra
experience mobile broadband. This is a way for us to try to shake up
the broadband market and let the Government know broadband can be
provided in interesting and unique ways.”
With the iBurst network now covering Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold
Coast and Canberra and with Adelaide and Perth coming online within 12
months, Spin Internet hopes to expand the free offer to other major
cities in coming months.
“We’ll also look at partnerships with media companies that have local
and national presence to co-brand the service so that we can possibly
increase the data limit,” said McArthur.
“The branding opportunity is there and we’re happy to be doing something that’s an Australian first.”
Peter Stevens - Director of Spin Internet said; “We’re looking at other
ways to subsidise the offer further that may include advertising or
part of a free option when you purchase a notebook computer”
This offer is only available to residents of Canberra.
