Palm has unleashed a new look for the Palm Treo 680 phones in the united states introducing four coloured garbs for the handset and offering up a trial deal with Yahoo!'s Music service.

The quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE phone is being made available online and in retail locations in the U.S all dressed in crimson, copper, arctic and graphite. Priced at US$399 the unlocked phones will also come bundled with a 30-day free trial of Yahoo! Music Unlimited To Go service and Yahoo! Music For Mobile for a limited time.

"The unlocked Treo 680 smartphone will reach new customers and markets, exemplifying Palm's dedication to expanding both geographically and demographically," said John Hartnett, senior vice president, global markets, Palm.

Reach new customers, eventually, he means. The coloured handsets are not yet available in the US and Australian user still have another month or so before they can hope to get their hands on a Treo 680 regardless of colour. The company has not announced any plans to make the red, yellow, white or grey kit available locally, yet.

When it does arrive, the Palm OS-based device may seem a little network crippled by Aussie standards. With all the major carriers now rolling out high speed 3.5G HSDPA networks, the Treo 680 EDGE speeds are so yesterday.

The big change on the latest Treo is to bring the antenna inside the device making the whole look that much more appealing. Even on top of this, Palm has made the unit slightly smaller and a fair bit lighter than its predecessor, the Treo 650.

The 680 weighs in at 158 grams (20 grams lighter) and 113x59x21mm, compared to the Treo 650 which was 113x59x23mm not a huge difference, but shaving a couple of millimetres of the thickness and losing the aerial makes for a much nice form factor.

See the Palm Treo 680 on the Australian site, or the Coloured Palm Treo 680 on the US Site.
