Pioneer Computers Australia is claiming a world first. The company has released a notebook PC with face recognition technology – the Pioneer DreamBook.

The notebook automatically captures faces, extracts facial characteristics, compares tem against those in its database and if it finds a match, grants you access.

If however, it detects an unauthorised individual trying to access the notebook, the DFRS automatically captures and recognises the face, delivers a message to relevant parties, and stores the unauthorised face for you to inspect later.

One of the advantages is that the system is able to recognise identity without the need of physical contact. The features of hands-off operation and auto-image-storage make an interesting combination of access control features for those wanting to protect sensitive data and monitor unauthorised access.

The recognition process takes less than one second and is said to have a success rate of better than with over 99 per cent (based on a test of 500 faces).

The DreamVision Face Recognition Solution (DFRS) is an optional extra on its range.
