Sony Ericsson has gone all out to attain a new level of
style in its latest volume GSM handset, the Z310. Destined to reach the market
in early 2007, the colourful clamshell is well featured and features well.

Sony Ericsson describes the Z310 as having a "stand-out" "flawless,
polished finish". The front icon display is actually integrated into the
design, behind the semi-transparent surface of the front panel. As soon as a message
arrives or a call is received the display emerges from the depths and there are
even eye-catching coloured light effects that can be assigned to contacts in
the phonebook; so you can know at a glance who is calling.
The seamless, semi-transparent finish on the front also
conceals the monochrome 96 x 64 pixel display as well as a number of display
icons which signal when a new event takes place on the phone. The finish sounds
a bit like the finish on the Sony Walkman MP3 players, which is quite
compelling to touch and hold.
The internal screen is 128 x 160 pixels and will display 65k
colour. That's a pretty small display so we are guessing this is a pretty
small phone although Sony Ericsson has
include the size and weight specs in the announcement.
"This stylish clamshell phone is one you won't want to live
without. Not only does it boast good looks and a vibrant colour, it also
provides must-have features for this type of everyday phone: VGA camera, MP3
Music Ringtones & Bluetooth connectivity," says Steve Walker, Head of
Product Marketing at Sony Ericsson. "The fresh look is also complimented by
some innovative design features, normally only seen on more advanced phones."
Adding to the striking design is a series of novel light
effects that serve to both personalise the phone & allow the user to
‘colour code' their contacts. Simply assign a coloured light to your frequent
callers and you will know instantly whether its work trying to reach you, your
best friend fixing a date, or your mother calling to invite you to Sunday
lunch! It is even possible to set the look and feel of the menu & screen
display to match the time of day; a bright theme during the daytime and
something more relaxing or subtle at night.
Available in either Black, Bronze or Pink the Tri-Band EDGE/GPRS
900/1800/1900 handset has a VGA camera. Uploading using the Picture Blogging software
puts the pictures directly to a Blog site from the Z310 or lets you send it via
MMS. The phone also supports email.
In terms of personalisation the Z310 supports changeable Wallpapers
& Themes, Picture phonebook and a range of ringtones including polyphonic, MP3
and PlayNow (Sony Ericsson's own download service).
Talk time on the Z310 is rated at up to 7 hours with a standby
time of up to 300 hours.
