According to a survey, sponsored by Vodafone, the average
Australian worker would prefer a job that gets them out from behind a desk.
According to the survey carried out by Woolcott Research, 43
per cent of employees in the Australian SME sector said they "could" make it
their New Year's resolution to find a new job that encompasses a more mobile
and flexible working environment - 22 per cent of those surveyed expect to actually
get proactive about searching for a new job that involves mobile working.
Just less then half (44 per cent) said they would like a job
where they can spend at least half of their working day out of the office and
would like to have the appropriate mobile devices and support from management
to do so.
The study, which affirms the growing trend towards mobile
and flexible working practices, also claims that 40 per cent of employees
become bored with the deskbound nature of their roles and 36 per cent believe
their productivity is affected by this predicament, suggesting productivity
would increase as a direct result of increased flexibility and mobility in
their workplace.
The study also showed that almost two-thirds (59 per cent)
believe mobile working is critical to the future success of the businesses they
work for.
"What we see
reflected in this survey is that Australian SME workers are voting with their
feet in favour of more flexible working environments," said Edward Goff,
General Manager, Business Markets at Vodafone Australia.
"The traditional perception of the office as your workplace
is being overtaken by a more flexible approach which empowers people to work in
environments and at times that they can be most productive."
