GPS maker, TomTom, has announced it plans to release an FM Transmitter Mount which will allow users to use their car stereo to hear navigation commands, playback  the music stored on their GPS device and even make handsfree calls using their car stereo speakers.

The windscreen dock works like the short range FM transmitters that have become popular for Apple iPods.

Available first in Europe next month and later this year in Australia, the FM Transmitter Mount costs €49.95.

Integrating the GPS device with your car stereo means you can listen to the music stored on your TomTom GO over the car radio without missing any instructions because the music shuts off when any navigation instructions are to be played. The same applies with hands free phone calls.

The FM Transmitter Mount is ideally suited to the TomTom GO 910, which has 12 GB of free memory space enough to store up to 3,000 songs (wanna spend 8 days on the road without hearing a single song twice?).

"TomTom continues to push the envelope when it comes to technology innovation," says Éric Pité, vice president Product Management at TomTom. "This wireless solution using FM frequencies, allows drivers to be guided by clear voice instructions and hear their favourite songs through the car stereo for a more integrated and enjoyable driving experience."

The FM Transmitter Mount will be available as an accessory and is currently compatible with the TomTom GO 910 and the TomTom GO 710. TomTom customers are required to have software version 6.522 or above, which is available when connecting to TomTom HOME.

TomTom HOME is TomTom's free software application enabling users to manage, download, store and transfer content from their computer onto their TomTom device.
