Dell has entered the ruggedised notebook market for the first time with
the introduction of the Latitude ATG D620, which meets military
standards for vibration, humidity and altitude.
Dubbed ATG, for All-Terrain Grade, the notebooks are described by the
company as semi-rugged notebook computers for tough environments. It
features a shock-mounted hard drive, spill-resistant keyboard, port
covers and high durability paint and is likely to find itself a home on
a construction sites or with emergency services as much as with the
military.
"The Latitude ATG is a prime example of customer-driven innovation by
Dell," said Jason Coppi, Brand Manager. "We heard loud and clear that
customers want a tougher, highly protective notebook with a screen that
is easy to see outdoors."
The laptop has a 14.1-inch display with ambient light sensor (ALS),
glass overlay and anti-reflective coating, which the company says is
one and a half times brighter than most mainstream corporate notebooks
for better viewing in sunlight.
Latitude ATG 620 Features
* 500 NIT LCD with non-reflective coating
* 14.1-inch WXGA screen (1,280 X 800 resolution)
* Supports up to 4GB DDR2 SDRAM
* ATG task lights for keyboard lighting
* Shock mounted-hard drive and LCD
* Intel Core 2 Duo processors
Priced from $3,225, the Dell Latitude ATG 620 retains compatibility
with all Latitude D-family wireless and security products as well as
accessories like docks, port replicators, and power adapters.
