Sony Ericsson announced a swag of new phones inclduing the new Walkman music phone the new Steel Silver Sony Ericsson W880i. 3 Mobile in Australia has announced it willbe the first with the phone here.

Slimmer than a standard CD case, the W880i is a choice music phone available first from 3 mobile. Bundled up with 24 by 7 access to over Planet 3's Music Store and its 300,000 tracks, you'll soon fill up the FREE 1GB Memory Stick Micro card you get when you sign up for this phone on 3 mobile.

The W880i comes with stereo headphones, but the handset will handle stereo bluetooth headsets, so for the ultimate in mobile music you can add some wireless cans if you like.

Internal storage is 15MB, so you'll need the extra 1GB card which will store up to 900 full-length music tracks, which will keep you listening for hours. Fill up the card by joining 3's music club and for just $5 per month and you can buy the tracks for A$1.50 each instead of the usual A$3. Cheaper than Australian iTunes (A$1.69) and you can play the music on your phone or PC.

As part of the subscription you will also get access to Rage Mobile TV and the Triple M Gig Guide in with the subscirption.

Can't name that funky new track you're dying to get hold of? Don't worry! The Sony Ericsson has a feature called TrackID which lets you record a snippet of music on your W880i and then it notifies you of the track name, artist and album. The you can just jump into Planet 3's Music Store and download it to both your 3 mobile and PC.

The W880i is not just about music, the phone has a 2 megapixel camera (yes it is a phone) apart from the video calling and mobile TV capabilities, the speakerphone has an organiser and is capable of handling email.

The candy bar is 9.4x46.5x103mm and weighs in at a slim taut and terrific 71 grams. The 1.89-inch TFT screen is capable of displaying 2662k colour.

3 is pushing the Sony Ericsson W880i Walkman out the door for A$22 per month on the A$29 Cap with a A$20 minimum monthly spend over 24 months or $696 upfront. Total minimum cost over 24 months is $528 (mobile) + $480 ($29 Cap).
