People Telecom must have done a great deal last month when it re-signed with Optus Commuinications to supply wholesale mobile phone services for the virtual network operator - People has just announced that it has cut its mobile phone rates by up to 40 per cent.

In late January People Telecom announced a deal with Optus it would renew its five year relationship with Optus, signing a new service provider agreement worth an estimated A$21 million over the life of the agreement.

The new deal has enabled People to restructure its plans introducing per-second billing and extended fleet calling options as part of a competitive new suite of mobile plans.

“This is an exciting new phase for People Telecom as we expand our existing leading-edgesolutions and maximise value for our customers, “ said People Telecom CEO, John Stanton.

“People Telecom’s new mobile wholesale supply agreement, announced recently, enables us to provide greater value to customers while continuing to grow our operating margins on mobile services.”

The new plans include a range of benefits and features, says the company. Free calls, SMS and MMS to mobile users within their fleet; free 5-minute calls to landlines connected with their People Telecom account and free 10-minute calls when customers take a bundled service package including fixed voice and broadband offerings.

These customers will also enjoy the ability to control their monthly spend with the new cap plans. In addition, the new mobile plans offer call aggregation across multiple calling plans, allowing customers to share the minimum monthly spend across their fleet on any plan.

Fixed rate value added options in which customers can choose from text, voicemail and data services to further enhance the value to customers are also available on the new plans.

Customers with a business focus seem to be on the list of targets with the new offerings slanted towards users making regular calls within their fleet and who have fixed-line costs they wish to manage, explains a company statement.

In addition, customers wishing to have greater control over their monthly mobility spend will be well catered for, as well as those wishing to further enhance their productivity through wireless solutions such as BlackBerry.
