Nokia has a new way of upgrading the software that runs their phones.
After a successful trial in 2006, Nokia is making the service available
to a wider audience. So far, over three quarters of a million people
have updated their Nokia device using Nokia Software Updater.
The free application enables people to update the device software on
compatible Nokia devices. It was initially only available in English,
but now Nokia has extended the language support to almost 40 different
languages.
"As mobile devices become more intelligent,
software updates make it possible for us to provide a better experience
for people by adding and updating functions," said Jarkko Sakki,
Director, Multimedia Customer Care, Nokia.
"For example, the
recent software update for the Nokia N80 added support for internet
calls. The Nokia Software Updater can make it fast and easy for
people to get the latest software for their compatible Nokia device. As
mobile devices become more like computers in terms of performance, it's
a natural step for us to offer internet based software updates so that
people can have the best available capabilities in their Nokia device."
Once the application is installed on a compatible computer, users can
connect their compatible Nokia device via a USB cable and Nokia
Software Updater automatically detects the device type, and whether any
required software updates are needed and it then guides users through
the updating process.
The application is available from selected Nokia local support web pages as well as http://www.nokia.com/softwareupdate.
The link to Nokia Software Updater is also available in the most recent versions of Nokia PC Suite software.
