Swann Communications has come up with a security surveillance system that lets you stream live video direct to your mobile phone from anywhere in the world. The system works for audio too.
Called the Capture-Cam range, there are two "all-in-one" retail packages that are a complete DIY solution. Capture-Cam Mobile comes with a high quality Max-i-Swann webcam as well as the software and instructions required to capture, manage and transmit video footage to a 3G phone.

Capture-Cam Advanced comes with two OutdoorCam security cameras, a four-port PCI card, the Capture-Cam Software plus instructions and a manual.

According to Swann Global Marketing Manager, Jeremy Stewart, linking live video from a webcam or surveillance cameras located at home or business to mobile phones is a big step forward for anyone with a mobile phone.

"This range of products goes a long way towards turning video surveillance camera's into lifestyle accessories," Mr Stewart said. "The potential customised applications for viewing footage captured by video cameras via mobile phones are infinite. Let's face it, everyone has a mobile phone these days."

Both products record video to a PC. These images can then be made available over the Internet where it can be viewed via a phone browser or PC browser from anywhere in the world. Mobile phones can also act as remote access devices activating the surveillance system including camera and integrated products.

Features such as preset scheduling of multiple camera activation, motion detection linked to customised alert messages, captured file playback capability and automatic live updates of software all offer broad flexibility for the user to find their own customised application.

Intuitive software ensures that the set-up and management processes are very easy to use while the system is compatible with all Windows PCs (W2000+, 1.2GHz+ CPU, 512MB+ RAM) and accessible via most internet-enabled 3G phones.

"The possibilities are endless," said Stewart. "In overseas markets, we have seen Swann cameras used to provide highly diverse surveillance activities. These include a pet checking service for holidaymakers wanting to see their cat or dog in pet accommodation facilities and night clubs broadcasting footage of their venues to people who might be considering where to go out for the night."

The products are the brainchild of Australian talent. Swann and the software developer, Capture-Cam, are locally based and owned, but have big plans to take the products to the rest of the world.

Swann's Capture-Cam Mobile is available now from Dick Smith Electronics, Dick Smith Powerhouse and Tandy stores with an RRP of $129. The 2 camera Capture-Cam Advanced has an RRP of $399. Both products include software and full instructions.
