Wireless technology company Qualcomm has lobbed another grenade over
the trenches with the Nokia legal team now facing additional fights in
Texas and Wisconsin.
The company filed suit against Nokia alleging the phone company of
infringing three of its patents in its GSM/GPRS/EDGE cellular phones.
One lot of patents generally relate to the downloading of applications
and other digital content over a GPRS/EDGE wireless data network while
another handful deal with speech encoders used in certain models of GSM
handsets.
The two companies have been at each other for years now fighting over
Nokia's use of various Qualcomm patents in various principalities.
There are two other patent infringement lawsuits against Nokia's
GSM/GPRS/EDGE cellular phones in the United States and similar cases
pending in the U.K., France, Germany, Italy and China.
Qualcomm claims its extensive licensing program already has more than
140 royalty agreements in place and is prepared to offer licenses under
its essential GSM/GPRS/EDGE patents on fair and reasonable terms free
from unfair discrimination to any company that requests one.
